YES! YES YES! Time to raise installation prices. I am in the trade for over 30 yrs. and in my area in northeast pa. it differs from county to county . but i had a recent experience that even lets just say , get my but in gear to change it . i work for alot of different retail stores and contractors , i did work for this one retailer 7 years ago and then we were trying to get install prices raised. but i left them , then recently they contacted me and asked if i was available for installs , i said yes because work is work when others slow down its good to have your foot in the door but better when they call you . did a job the other day for them but we did not discuss anything yet on prices i figured we would do that after i was to be paid , looking at my worksheet they were still paying the same price a yard on carpet as they were 7 yrs ago . this has to change for all installers . some of these companies don't realize that us installers is what makes there companies look good . they should respect us a bit more on being fair. Good luck to you on your journey to the installers fair labor pricing
Awesome David, I appreciate your response, Stores don't realize exactly what it takes us to make them look good, and that a portion of their value as a store reflects the quality of the installations provided. With the cost of materials constantly going up we have seen our bottom line shrink year after year and while they have no problem increasing their prices to accommodate the the increases from the distributors, its like pulling teeth to get a small increase to help us with our overhead. I have resorted to adding small charges for so many things that used to be included, to try to cope with our increases. Nickle and dimeing when ever possible, this almost always pisses the customer off because they thought they got a firm quote, but most of the sales reps simply lack the expertise to bid the jobs accurately, and simply are not as worried about the installation as much as they are on making a quick sale.
